9 MONTHS AFTER CLOSURE: Ogun State House Of Assembly Reconvenes
Nine months after the closure of the Ogun State House of Assembly in Southwest Nigeria, due to the crisis that resulted from the purported impeachment of the majority members of the House by the G9, the House reconvened today.
P.M.NEWS reports that only the G16 members were present at today’s sitting which had Tunji Egbetokun as the Speaker.
At the sitting, the House members grilled the clerk of the House, Barrister W. Badejo, on the legality of the ‘palace coup’ by the G9 members that resulted in the closure of the House and its implications.
Allegations were also levelled against the clerk and the G9 members, but the clerk explained his role during the crisis.
According to him, “posterity will judge every action that we carry out in this state. I believe I have done my best in ensuring that justice prevailed, but the powers that be tightened everything.â€
Newly elected lawmakers in the state were also at the House to witness proceedings since the lawmakers may again sit for the valedictory service today.
As at the time of filing this report, the lawmakers went on a 30-minute break.
Meanwhile, the newly sworn-in governor, Ibikunle Amosun is currently on tour of the ministries and is likely to name his commissioners.
A source told P.M.NEWS that some commissioners were invited by the police for questioning over their roles in the running of the state.
Contacted on phone, the police spokesman in the state, Muyiwa Odejobi, said he was not aware of any arrest of the commissioners and that he would confirm and get back to our correspondent.
