520 Killed in Post Presidential Election Violence in Nigeria -Police
Nigeria Police have said a total of 520 persons lost their lives in the violence that followed the 19 April presidential elections in some states in the Northern part of the country.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, Felix Ogbadu, who represented Hafiz Ringim, the Inspector-General of Police revealed this today at a forum organized to review the 2011 general elections by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, Abuja.
“One hundred and fifty-seven churches, forty-six mosques and one thousand four hundred and thirty-five houses were burntâ€, Ogbadu also revealed at the forum.
He listed other loss to the post election violence to include 437 vehicles and 219 motor-cycles which were also burnt by rioters.
The rioters did not spare the police as Ogbadu said five properties belonging to the law enforcement agency were also set ablaze in various areas of the North.
He added that 77 persons sustained various degrees of injuries in the violence that followed the election in which President Jonathan was declared winner in Kaduna State.
The Police boss added that a total of 22,000 persons were displaced as a result of the violence.
