EJECTION ROW: Landlord Hammers Tenant's Spinal Cord

A landlord, Innocent Uchendu of 14, Oyebo Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos State Southwest Nigeria has been charged to Apapa magistrate’s court for allegedly breaking his tenant’s spinal cord.

The 55-year old Uchendu was alleged to have used hammer and hit Onoja Sunday on his waist and broken his spinal cord for still living in his house after he asked him to pack out.

Sunday was seriously injured and now he cannot walk, P.M.NEWS gathered.

The cause of the fight, P.M.NEWS gathered, was the irreconcilable differences between Uchendu and Sunday which had lingered over the years.

It was learnt that Uchendu wanted Sunday to pack out of his house. But Sunday told him that if he must pack out of the house, the landlord must follow due process.

This problem lingered until the day the incident happened. It was alleged that the landlord brought a hammer and hit Sunday where he was working and he collapsed.

Since then he could not walk properly because of the injury he sustained on his spinal cord.

The matter was reported at the police station in the area and Uchendu was arrested and charged to court on a two count charge of assault occasioning harm under section 355 of criminal code cap 17 vol.2 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Uchendu pleaded not guilty to the charge when the matter came up.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. H.O.A. Amos granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The matter has been adjourned till 28 July 2011 for hearing.
