Thirty two teams from Lagos and Ogun states are expected to take part in this year’s Abesan Youth Cup Soccer Championship scheduled to hold on 26 June in four centres.
The centres are Abesan Estate football pitch, Children Command, Ipaja; Sango Otta football pitch and Teachers Training College, Ifako- Ijaiye.
The Chairman Organising Committee,Tayo Adeyemo, warned participating teams to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the competition, adding that the era of indiscipline and hooliganism during Abesan Cup is gone. He said any team that violate the rules will be sanctioned accordingly.
“We will not condone any form of indiscipline and hooliganism in this year’s edition. Our experience in the previous editions has taught us a big lesson; so I am using this medium to tell participating teams to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition,†he said.
Defending champions, Mundial Sports International, and last year’s runner up, Iyaro FC, top the list of clubs that have completed their registration forms.
Adeyemo revealed that the 32 clubs will compete for the N300,000 prize money at stake. Apart from the prize money, the top three teams will also receive trophies and set of jerseys for a job well done.
Meanwhile, patron of Abesan tourney, Clementina Doregos, had tasked the participating teams to shun social vices that can tarnish the image of the competition and wished the teams best of luck in their outings.
Doregos pledged to continue her sponsorship of Abesan Cup and charged the organisers to organise hitch-free tourney that all the teams will be proud of.
