INEC Staff Protest Over Non-payment Of Allowances

Business activities in the oil rich Rivers state were today paralysed by thousands of adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC,who blocked the Expressway where the Rivers State office is located,  protesting against the refusal of the officials to pay their allowances.

The blockade of the expressway caused gridlock, causing the diversion of vehicles through Olu Obasanjo Road.

People travelling out of the city and workers returning home faced a lot of hell. The expressway is the main road out of the oil city.Attempts to get across to Aniedi Ikoiwa,the state Resident Electoral was not successful as he was said to be holed up in a managment meeting in his office . 

At the time of the report,the Expressway remained blocked.

Policemen from the state police command were  already drafted to the scene to calm the situation.
