Ripples In Ogun Radio

The planned appointment of ace broadcaster, Olusesan Ekisola as the new General Manager of the Ogun State-owned radio, OGBC, is causing disaffection among staff of the broadcast medium.

Ekisola, one time Controller of Programmes at the same station, has been away in the United States for sometime now but Governor Ibikunle Amosun is disposed to him leading the restructuring of the Abeokuta-based FM station.

Ekisola, one of the pioneer handlers at OGBC, renamed Gateway Radio by the Gbenga Daniel administration, left the station in 1992 for Raypower FM. As pioneer General Manager, he helped to midwife the birth of the country’s first private radio station owned by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of the DAAR Group.

In late 1995, he quit his job at the station and relocated to the U.S. the following year.

Given the controversial manner of his leaving OGBC for Raypower, opinions are divided among staff of the state-owned radio on Ekisola’s imminent return to lead the affairs again.
