Police take over Ibadan as students boycott schools

Following a bloody clash yesterday between two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) which claimed about twenty lives apart from several people that were injured and loss of property worth millions of naira, policemen armed to the teeth have been deployed to the flashpoints in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.Majorly, mobile policemen and APC were stationed at different spots in Iwo Road where the clash occurred.Other areas that security presence was notice is Ojoo Area of Ibadan as the police is not resting on their oasis to arrest any situation that would threaten the peace of the city.

However, PM NEWS gathered this morning that students of public schools in some areas like Academy, Iwo road and other flashpoints in Ibadan did not go to school as they are afraid of what can happen.

Speaking with PM NEWS, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tunji Ajimouda assured the public that the police is on top of the situation urging them to go about their lawful duties without any fear.He said that those arrested are detained in the cell of State CID, Iyaganku, Ibadan adding that as soon as investigation is concluded, culprits would be charged to court for prosecution.

PM NEWS gathered that NURTW faction loyal to the immediate governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala led by Mukaila Lamidi alias Auxiliary started the fight yesterday around 11pm as they were fully mobilised to Iwo road in reprisal attack on the faction of Lateef Akinsola alias Tokyo who last week took over Iwo Road and Ojoo motor parks.

The resistance by Tokyo’s faction for Auxiliary’s faction to take over the Iwo road motor park led to the fracas where many people were inhumanly killed, injured and several vehicles burnt.

NO fewer than 20 people including a Pastor were feared killed yesterday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital in a fresh bloody clash between factional members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers [NURTW] in the state .

Over 40 commercial buses were either burnt, several vandalished during the mayhem with 30 shops located in and around the Iwo road motor park set ablazed.

However, as at the time of sending this report, over 50 armed Mobile Policemen have arrived the area with eight patrol vehicles and four Armed Personnel Carriers on ground to stop the factional NURTW members.

Meanwhile some innocent citizens alleged that while raising their hands as instructed by the policemen, some hoodlums also took advantage of that by removing what were in their pockets as a result most innocent citizens lost some money and valuable to hoodlums.
