Police Quiz Alhaji Over Dud Cheques

A middle aged Alhaji has been quizzed by the police at Area ‘G’ Ogba, for allegedly issuing a cheque to the tune of N8,128,500 to Mr. Fatai Mustapha, knowing there was no money in his account.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, Mr. Fatai Mustapha said he lent the Alhaji N6,300,000 with a promise that he would pay back the money instalmentally in 2010.a

He explained further that the Alhaji first gave him a cheque of N3,078,500 in April 2010 and the cheque was returned unpaid by the bank.

Another cheque of N5,050,000 was issued to him in July and it bounced again.

“I had to report the matter to the police and that was why he was arrested,” said Mustapha.

When P.M.NEWS asked if the Alhaji has paid the money, he said he had written an undertaking, promising to pay the money in January, June and December 2011 in three instalments of N2.1 million each but that till this moment, has not paid a kobo even though we are in June 2011.

When P.M.NEWS contacted the Alhaji on his mobile phone, he refused to comment on the matter, saying he will call Mr. Mustapha.

Mustapha has, however, promised to use all legal means to collect his money. P.M.NEWS also learnt that as part of the settlement, the Alhaji has used his 4-bedroom property at Ikola-Agbenoje via Ipaja, Lagos, as collateral for the loan till December 2011.
