‘Removal Of Vice Chancellors, A Welcome Development’

The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigerian Students [MENS], has given its support to the removal of the vice chancellors of the three state-owned universities in Ekiti State.

In a statement, the students‘ body said that the decision of the state government was what Nigerian students under the

auspices of MENS want.

Signed by the group’s spokesperson, Tope Idowu, the students described the move as the major step which must be taken by any genuine government that is committed to the repositioning and restructuring of the bastardised education system in the state.

“It will be unreasonable for anyone to think that the decision was made on political grounds. But

rather, it has become imperative that when a system is faulty, heads have to roll before it can be reorganised.

“We wish to state clearly that it is share fallacy that students are going on the streets to protest the decision. It is a decision students are not willing to reverse,” the statement read, adding, “although we are not unaware that some students have been paid to stage a protest against the decision which is in the general interest of the students, aside from the fact that it has long been overdue, it is for the betterment of the system, thus, we urge the state government to follow due process in appointing new leaders in the various universities.”
