Tout Nabbed For Assault

A social miscreant, known in local parlance area boy, was this morning arrested at Abule Egba bus stop, Lagos State, southwest Nigerai, for assaulting a police officer.

The suspect, 26, identified as Sulaimon Bakare was alleged to have prevented Femi Macaulay, a 42-year-old police officer attached to Ajah Division, from driving his commercial danfo bus into the park to discharge passengers.

According to Macaulay, who said he is attached to Magnet Integrated Company on special duty said he performed 24 hours duty and that, as he was not on duty, he wanted to use his commercial bus to make some money when the incident happened.

He explained further that the tout had been planning to deal him because he does not pay him money like other drivers, adding that the attack on him was planned.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the Inspector Eboh Pius who assisted Mr. Macaulay to effect the arrest of the suspect, said the driver was manhandled.

While defending himself, Sulaimon Bakare said he is a staff of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and that Macaulay tried to drop passengers alongthe road, which he prevented.

As at the time of filing this report, members of the NURTW were at Oko-Oba Police Station to bail Sulaimon.
