Ifesowapo Circuit Win Oshoffa Cup

Ifesowapo Circuit at the weekend defeated Ona Iye Circuit 5-4 to emerge winners of the maiden edition of Rev. S.B Oshoffa U-20 youth competition at the Circuit Headquarters football pitch, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos, southwest, Nigeria.

Eight parishes participated in the championship, which came to an end after two weeks of football display and the champions, who happen to be the hosts that carried the day.

The encounter ended 2-2 and the referee, Erinfolami Adebayo, directed the match to be decided via penalty.

Ona Iye opened scoring in the first stanza of the encounter through Ibrahim Adeyemi and it was a dingdong affair.

Tempers rose and as anxiety increased, foul tackles were made by both teams.

Ona Iye’s Ibrahim Adeyemi was shown the yellow card after he hacked Dada Olatunji, both of them had gone for an aerial tackle but Adeyemi used his elbow, oblivious of the presence of Ref. Earinfolami. The bulky referee, who took control of the encounter, employing all his professional skills, wasted no time in booking the errant Adeyemi.

Not long after, Oduntan Alaba also went into the bad book of the referee as a ressult of a rough tackle on Ifesowapo’s Lekan Aina. It, however, took the intervention of the fourth official for both teams to play according to the rules of the game.The referee ended the first half.

At the beginning of the second half, Ifesowapo came out in search of the equaliser and they were rewarded few minutes to the end of the pulsating encounter, when Shittu Idris, who emerged as the highest goal scorer, fired in thunderous shot.
