Air Conditioner Thieves Docked
The police at Maroko Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested two suspected thieves.
The suspects, Saviour John, 20 and Baba Mustapha, 35 were arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of felony and stealing.
They were alleged to have sneaked into the premises of Doyin Rhodes Viviour & Co. at 9, Simeon Akinlolu Crescent, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, to steal seven Panasonic airconditioners, valued at N746,000 and a motorcycle with registration number QQ 672 KTU, valued at N175,000. The total value of the stolen items was put at N921,000.
The offences are punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. L. Y. Balogun granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties who must be gainfully employed with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
He adjourned the matter till 26 June, 2011 and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons when they could not perfect their bail conditions.
