The Lagos State Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Otunba Henry Ajomale, has said that nobody can stampede the governor of the state, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, over the appointment of commissioners and special advisers into his cabinet.

Ajomale who disclosed this during a chat with Political Platform in his office while reacting to the rumour that Fashola will only be allowed to pick only two commissioners as part of an agreement reached before he was given the nod to run for a second term, added that it is the fifth columnists that are at work.

He said there was no condition, no agreement or strings attached to the governor’s second term ambition.

Ajomale added that it is only logical to allow the governor to choose the best hands that he believes will complement his efforts deliver the dividends of democracy to the electorate.

Speaking on why the cabinet is yet to be inaugurated, he said the governor will set up his cabinet at the appropriate time.

“You will recall that he was only sworn-in on Sunday 29 May, and it will take him some time, days and even months to inaugurate his cabinet, unless there was a blanket approval that all those who are there are coming back. But certainly, he must have seen some deficiencies in some of the commissioners and special advisers whom he worked with for four years.

“Do we have any right to tell him to work with the people he knows cannot perform or work at his own pace? Is it not right for us to allow him to choose those he can work with? He knows the people that can work with him and our concern is to ensure the fulfilment of his promises to the people.

“Therefore, the allegation is very incorrect. I say so because it is not true and the fifth columnists cannot come between us again. Just take it as a rumour. As far as I’m concerned, some people are trying to create problems within the party by saying that the governor will only be allowed to have just two commissioners. How then do we expect him to work, if we are giving him almost a hundred per cent of the people he will work with?

“We should be commended for giving him the opportunity to have a say in his cabinet,” he said.”
