Houses Burnt As Villagers Clash In Benue

Following renewed clashes between communities in two local government areas in Benue State, Agasha in Guma and their Asukunya neighbours of Guma Tarka local government, hundreds of people have fled the areas for safety in Makurdi the state capital.

Police authorities have also confirmed that there was burning of houses and displacement of persons during the renewed conflict early this week. According to our sources, no life has been lost.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Alaribe Ejike, told newsmen that mercenaries are engaged in the crisis, adding that a joint patrol team of the police and the military has been drafted to the area to quell the crisis.

Ejike said investigations to unravel the cause of the crisis are still ongoing, warning that anyone discovered to be the arrowhead of the fresh conflict, no matter how highly placed , would be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the laws of the nation.
