Motorists in Lagos State have been advised to renew their vehicle documents. This advice was given by the Permanent Secretary Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) Mr. Akin Hanson at the agency’s headquarters at Agidingbi, Lagos.
He stated that it is gross violation of traffic regulations for motorists to ply the roads without valid documents.
He disclosed that law enforcement agents particularly the police and the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) are now on the look-out for erring motorists.
Hanson reminded commercial motor operators, particularly, trucks and tankers operators, motorcycle (okada) and tricycle operators to obtain their Hackney Permits to avoid delay that may arise when accosted by the law enforcement officers.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the government has made access to vehicle documents renewal easy and fast through automation.
The renewal, he said should be processed at the 38 approved Vehicle Licensing Offices spread across the state and at the branches of the participating banks in the state.
Further, he stated that Vehicle License Renewal Alert (Auto Alert) has been enhanced to remind motorists of the dates their vehicle licenses are due for renewal and to provide useful information on traffic and emergency situations.
He advised motorists to always provide their mobile phone numbers whenever they renew their particulars so as to benefit from the now improved auto renewal alert service.
He advised individuals and corporate organizations to take advantage of the accredited Clients’ Representatives in processing their vehicle particulars.
Additionally, the Permanent Secretary stated that the agency has provided the names and phone numbers of credible vehicle renewal offices on its website, as an alternative, so that clients can call for assistance.
He warned motorists to utilise only the authorised offices and to desist from patronising touts for their vehicle licences.
