The police at Yaba Police Division, Adekunle, Yaba, Lagos State, southwest, Nigeria, have arraigned a 45-year-old woman before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court on a four-count charge of allegedly obtaining money from two women and refusing to repay the money.

The police alleged that the accused was arrested, following a complaint lodged by two victims, Mrs. Omololu Egbeyemi and Mrs. Mudirat Savage, that the accused obtained N105,000 and N100,000 respectively from them in order to engage them in a profitable business. She was alleged to have refused to involve them in the business and at the same time refused to refund their money but instead absconded with it.

The incident was said to have occurred on 5 May 2011 at Simpson Street, Ebute-Meta, Lagos State. Following the report, the Divisional Police Crime Officer, DSP M. A. Oloyode led his men to arrest her at a hideout in Bariga and charged her before the court for obtaining money under false pretence.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. S. K. Matepo, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties and adjourned the matter till 20 June, 2011.
