Badagry Chiefs Shut Down LG Over 6 Months Unpaid Allowance
White cap chiefs to the Akran of Badagry in Badagry Central Local Council Development Area, LCDA, this morning shut down the council for three hours over unpaid six months arrears of allowance by the council chairman.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the chiefs stormed the council around 6.30 am before any staff could report for work and shut down the council.
The chiefs protested and berated the council chairman, Hon. Husitode Moses for not paying their allowances for six months, saying that they would not leave the area until their demands were met.
A source from the council who witnessed the protest told P.M.NEWS that the chiefs locked the gate of the council and dared any worker to go in.
According to him, the chiefs locked the gate with Akoko leaves, signifying charm while fear gripped staff of the council as none off them dared to go near the gate.
The chiefs, at least 12 of them brought their chairs and sat at the gate after locking it.
They were angry that their welfare was not being looked into by the council chairman.
Efforts by the chairman of the council to placate the chiefs to allow the staff go into the secretariat proved abortive as they rebuffed his plea.
It took the intervention of the Baale of Ajara Topa, Chief Owolabi before the chiefs could shift ground to allow the gates of the council to be opened.
He begged them to exercise restraint as the council would pay them the arrears of their allowance.
It was gathered that the chiefs later met with the chairman of the council for dialogue.
When P.M.NEWS called the chairman on phone, he refused to pick his calls. He also failed to respond to a text message sent to his phone.
