A 20-year old man Owolabi Owomoye on Tuesday 14 June appeared before an Ijebu-Ode magistrate court on one count charge of stealing 8 chickens, property of Jimoh Mariam at Itun Agba Street, Ilese Ijebu valued at N8,000.
According to the prosecution, Corporal Ojo Olubi, the accused person committed the offence contrary to and punishable under section 390(3)c (9) of the criminal code Vol 1 Cap 24 laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006.
The accused pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him.
The prosecution stated that the accused person committed the offence on 10 June at about 8.40pm.
The investigation police officer Corporal Idyat Tijani stated that Semiu Jimoh reported the case at Ilese Police Station, that the accused was found with two chickens and upon further investigation 6 more chickens were recovered from him.
The confessional statement of the accused, statement of the complainant , Mr Semiu Jimoh, statement of the accused father Mr Owomoye, the search warrant on the accused and recovered 8 chickens were all tendered in court and admitted as exhibits by the court.
In her judgment, Magistrate O.O Adebo found the accused guilty as charged and after careful perusal of the essential ingredients of the charge, however sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment or option N3,000 fine.
