Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Asabe Yar’Adua
An Ikeja High Court in Lagos today issued a bench warrant against a woman who claimed to be Hajia Asabe
Yar’Adua and allegedly defrauded a Lagos-based automobile dealer of N3.2 million.
Justice Olabisi Akinlade issued the bench warrant following
her reluctance to appear in court to be properly arraigned on a three-count
charge bordering on fraud and cheating.
The woman who claimed to be a wife of the late Maj. Gen. Shehu
Yar’Adua, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
for alleged fraud.
She was arrested based on a petition written by Stanley Ekeze who alleged that she issued him a dud cheque to purchase a Hummer Jeep
(H3) on Nov. 21, 2008 at Egbeda, Lagos.
The accused person also known as Joy Williams was granted an administrative bail but has refused to appear in court to face the charges
preferred against her by EFCC.
When her arraignment came up today her lawyer, Mr Paul Ogedengbe apologised for her absence, claiming that she was bed-ridden.
Ogedengbe, however failed to tender before the court any evidence to support his claim, promising that he will try and produce her on the
next adjourned date.
