Lagos NYSC Sanctions 60 Corps Members

The Lagos State National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has sanctioned 60 corps members over various acts of indiscipline as 6,675 others passed out of service today.

The Lagos NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ladipo Laniyan disclosed this today at the passing out parade of the 2010 Batch ‘B’ corps members in Lagos, South West Nigeria.

According to him, the 60 corps members would have their certificates withdrawn as they await the sanction to be meted out to them for indiscipline. Laniyan urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC as they go into the larger world.

He also urged them to shun all vices and refrain from being used for anti-social activities, while wishing them well in their daily endeavour.

Speaking, Governor Babatunde Fashola mourned the corps members killed in the post election violence in Bauchi State recently.

He, however, said there was no need to cancel the NYSC scheme because of the incident that occurred in the north, saying that the NYSC scheme could be reviewd or restructured in such a way as to allay fears, correct shortcomings and deepen the confidence of prospective participants and in deed all stakeholders, parents in particular. Fashola assured parents that the safety of corps members to serve in Lagos shall always be guaranteed while commending the NYSC for remaining focused despite its daunting challenges so far.

The governor urged the corps members to employ the skills they had been taught during their service year to be self-employed rather than wait for white collar jobs.
