Nigeria’s Games open 3 July

The opening ceremony of the 17th National Sports festival, tagged ‘Garden City Games’, will now take place on Sunday 3 July, instead of the advertised date of 2 July.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee of the Garden City Games, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, which announced this in Port Harcourt over the weekend. She said the minor shift in date of the opening ceremony was to allow for all participating states and athletes to be part of the opening ceremony.

Mrs. Semenitari said there is confirmation now that President. Goodluck Jonathan would physically be in Port Harcourt to open the Garden City games, which Governor Amaechi had promised to be the best Sports Festival ever to be hosted in Nigeria.
