The Lagos State Government has vowed to impound vehicles whose owners do not have valid vehicle documents.

Permanent Secretary, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, MVAA, Mr. Akin Hanson, has, therefore, advised motorists whose vehicle documents had expired to quickly renew them as the police and the Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs, had been ordered to impound any vehicle with expired documents.

He stated that it was a violation of traffic regulations for motorists to ply the roads without valid documents. He urged commercial vehicle operators, particularly, trucks and tankersoperators, motorcycle (okada) and tricycle operators to obtain Hackney Permits to avoid being delayed by law enforcement officers.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the government had made access to vehicle documents renewal easy and fast through automation, saying that the renewal should be processed at the 38 approved Vehicle Licensing Offices across the state and at participating bank branches in the state.

He added that Vehicle License Renewal Alert (Auto Alert) had been enhanced to remind motorists of the dates their vehicle licences were due for renewal and to provide useful information on traffic and emergency situations.

He warned motorists to utilise only the authorised offices and desist from patronising touts to acquire vehicle licences.
