Vocational Student Wins Car In Promo

For 25-year-old Miss Nofisat Aderoju, a vocational catering student of the Lagos State Skills and Acquisition Centre, Mushin, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, last week was one that she will never forget.

She emerged winner in the Known Cook and Win Promo raffle draw which gave her a brand new Honda City car. Students of the centre and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, surrounded her as she became an instant heroine.

At the ministry where she brought the car to show the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Risqat Akiyode, and other top government functionaries, everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of the heroine as she had brought fame to the centre and the state government.

“I am very excited that I won in the raffle draw. I never believed I could win it. I have never dreamt of owing a car. Now, I will learn how to drive and be driving the car,” said Aderoju, who hailed from Oyo State.

She thanked the state government and the principal of the centre for giving her the opportunity to be a student of the vocational centre which gave her the opportunity to enter for the raffle draw.

Permanent Secretary, WAPA, Akiyode, said she felt so excited that a student of one of its vocational centres won the raffle draw, saying that it was by a dint of hard work.

She encouraged others to follow suit by trying their luck in subsequent raffle draws, adding that the state government had adequately equipped the various vocational centres.

Akiyode, however, drew the attention of youths in the state to enroll free of charge for shoe making at its skills and Acquisition Centre, Isheri, saying that the state government had set up a shoe manufacturing and woodwork factory in the centre.

“We appeal to youths to enroll in this centre as admission is free and still open. The centre is well equipped with modern equipment and they have good hands to help them make quality furniture.

“We have people there to teach them. The government has really invested in this place. The admission is still open and I want to encourage them to come to this centre and get the best,” she stated.
