Ogun Assembly Wades Into Motorcycle Riders’ Crisis

The Ogun State House of Assembly today set up a 7-man Committee to look into the immediate and remote causes of the lingering crisis that has been rocking the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN)in the state.

 

Speaking while inaugurating the Committee members, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Adekunbi said the crisis should be looked into before it becomes war.

 

According to the Speaker,”the issue is between this people and some people believed to be a faction within the group. We cannot fold our arms and be watching unarmed citizens being killed because of irrelevant issue. We need to act fast and ensure that lives and properties of the people are protected.

 

“We heard about what happened in Sagamu yesterday and we are very sorry for everything that had happened. There is need to quickly swing into action to ensure such thing does not happen

again. That is why is it necessary to set up a committee to look into the matter and proffer solution.”

 

The Committee is headed by the former deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Remmy Hazzan representing Odogbolu State Constituency. Other members include Hon. Salman Adeleke, Hon. Akinpelu Aina, Hon. Solarin Samuel,Hon. Harrison Adeyemi, Hon. Mafe Adeyinka and Hon. Allen-Taylor Olufemi.

 

The Committee was given till next week Monday to submit its report to the House.

 

Crisis broke out yesterday in Sagamu where one person was confirmed dead while many were reported injured.

 

Speaking with P.M.NEWS today in Abeokuta, the General Chairman, Branch 1, ACOMORAN, Alhaji Ganiyu Yusuf narrated the incident and called on the state House of Assembly and the state government to come to their aid as their members are law abiding citizens who had worked hard to enthrone this government and will never join hands to destabilise the state.

 

The House further approved the names of the Selection Committee headed by the Speaker himself. They also resolved that to check the activities of cultists in the state.

 

The motion was moved by Hon.Elizabeth Anifowoshe representing Obafemi/Owode Constituency and was seconded by Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo from Ifo Constituency 2.The House later adjourned sitting till tomorrow, Thursday by 11a.m.
