Robbery Suspect In Police Net

A 40-year old man has been arrested by the Police for alleged robbery. The suspect, Temitope Joseph Mathew was arrested on 20 May, 2011 at Ayobo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District and charged before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, Inspector R. Inuigbe, is punishable under Section 1(2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap.398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended.

The second count reads: “That you, Temitope Joseph Mathew and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district whilst armed with jack knife did rob Raheem Mariam of the sum of one million naira cash and jewellery valued at six hundred thousand naira and later push her out of a bus on motion and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 5(b) and punishable under Section 1(2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap.398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge and Magistrate A.T. Omoyele granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties who must be gainfully employed. The case has been adjourned till 11 of July, 2011.
