8,788 Police Officers Promoted

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Wednesday, promoted 8,788 officers to various ranks.

A statement signed by Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, the commission’s Chief Information Officer, said that two Commissioners of Police, John Morenike and Stephen Hart, were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police.

It stated that the promotion of the two officers would take effect from Aug. 3.

It also announced the promotion of Mr. Lateef Junaid, a Deputy Commissioner to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

“Twenty six Deputy Superintendents of Police were promoted to Superintendents of Police while 159 Assistants Superintendent of Police were elevated to Deputy Superintendents of Police effective from March 15,’’ it said.

According to the statement, 8,600 inspectors were elevated to Assistant Superintendent of Police II with effective from June 21 and one Inspector, Samuel Dabai was elevated to Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The PSC approved the promotions based on the recommendations of the Inspector General of Police at its plenary meeting held on Tuesday, the statement said.

It said that Mr. Parry Osayande, the Chairman of the PSC congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to rise up to the challenge of their new ranks.

“Osayande called on men and officers of the Nigeria Police to work harder for the security of the nation, pointing out that promotion would be based on hard work, merit and passing of prescribed examinations,’’ the statement added.
