Human Rights Abuse: Couple Slams N170m Suit On Businessman
In a bid to enforce their fundamental human right, a Lagos couple, Anthony Adeola and Mariam Oladejo alongside three others, have dragged the Chairman of First Nazareth International Company Limited, Chief Olubunkola Samuel and his son, Temidayo, before a Lagos High Court claiming the sum of N170 million.
Also joined as corespondents are the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Area Commander, Area ‘A’ Police Command, the Divisional Police Officer, Ajah Police Station and First Nazareth International Company.
In an affidavit sworn to by Mrs. Oladejo, she averred that she was arrested on 18 May, 2011 and detained at Ajah Police Station on the ground that she is the wife of Anthony Oladejo who is still been detained, while one Salami Abiodun was also arrested and detained on 19 May, 2011.
She also alleged that the police obtained an order from a Magistrate’s Court to further detain them, but were later released on bail bases on an application filed before the court by their lawyer.
However, regardless of her bail, she alleged that the respondents have continued to lay siege for her near her house, threatening her with further arrest and molestation, thus preventing her and her family to live a quiet life in their house.
Mrs. Oladejo also averred that Chief Olubunkola Samuel told her during interrogation at Ajah Police Station that he did not recognise her as the wife of Mr. Oladejo as her husband has another wife in Abuja.
The deponent alleged further that the police came to their home and carted away all their belongings without court’s order and in the process, took the pictures of her husband with which the respondents made an unauthorised publication.
Mr. Oladejo and one Faramade Kehinde, it was alleged, have been in police custody for several days with no prima facie case against them till date. They have both been absent from their work place and homes, while they left very little children uncared for, some of who are reportedly sick, hence the urgency of this application.
In view of these, the applicant urged the court not only to restrain the respondents from further harassment, but to order their immediate release.
