The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Rivers State chapter is disturbed by the sudden reappearance of potholes on almost all streets and roads in Port Harcourt, which if not checked will subject greater part of the state capital to flooding.

The ACN further stated that it is worried about the millions of naira belonging to the masses earmarked for the regular road maintenance through the Road Rehabilitation Agency under Chidi Wihoka and the Zero Pothole Tolerance of the Ministry of Works under the supervision of the immediate past Commissioner of Works, Dakuku Peterside which have produced nothing.

A press statement issued by Jerry Needam, Publicity Secretary of ACN in the state regretted that all the hurly-burly by the State Government under the leadership of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to transform the state overnight has yielded nothing but swelling the pockets of his cronies to whom all the contracts are being awarded.

Needam maintained that the creation of those agencies was a subtle way of settling political friends and relations, stressing that, that is the reason why the government has turned blind eye to the few shoddy jobs carried out by these agencies which have been exposed by the rains even when the rainy season has not fully set in.

He challenged the government agencies in charge of the road maintenance to cite any road or street they worked that is not presently as bad as it was only a few months after they boasted about rehabilitating such road.

Needam called on the state government and the relevant agencies to begin to face the real challenges of governance and attend to the rapidly degenerating state infrastructure and stop politicking with serious matters.
