A surveyor, Adebunmi Kazeem Amis, 41, was docked before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogudu, Lagos charged with obtaining N45 million under false pretence.
The police prosecutor, ASP Eyo Owai, in a two-count charge, disclosed that the accused committed the offence in October, 2009 at Ikorodu in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
“Adebunmi Kazeem Amis obtained N45,500,000 on the pretence of carrying out a land survey for one Chief Bashorun Sunny Eke which he did not carry out. He also refused to return his money,” the prosecutor stated.
The offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 419, 519 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
The trial magistrate, Mrs. Y.O Aje Afunwa admitted him on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties, she directed, must be a blood relation of Adebunmi and must be paying tax to the Lagos State government.
The case has been adjourned till 4, July, 2011 for mention.
