Adeleke Targets Gold Medals For Team Lagos
Adeolu Adeleke, Para /table tennis player and member of the Lagos State contingent to the National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expressed determination to win two gold medals at the tourney tagged “Garden Gamesâ€.
The 28 years old Ogun State -born athlete, who is competing in his second Sports Festival after participating in 2009 edition where he only won a silver medal, disclosed to P.M Sports on telephone that he is determined to go a step further and secure two gold medals at this year’s tourney.
“I am charged to go all ahead to the final at the individual and team events to win gold medals because I don’t want to repeat the feat of last edition where I got to the final and won silver medal. I have been training personally and with the team to make sure I realise my target of winning two gold medals at the Garden Games,†he said.
Adeleke said he and other athletes competing for Lagos State at the Games have been spurred to go all out to win medals at the tourney as a result of Governor Fashola redemption of financial rewards to various medals winners and non medals winning athletes, that participated at the 2009 National Sports Festival held in Kaduna.
“I have been motivated like all other athletes in the Lagos Team to win laurels for the team Those of us that won medals for the state at the last festival and even those that did not win any medal were compensated equally. We are ready to do Lagos proud and gain back the seemingly lost glory of Lagos State at the National Sports Festival,†Adeleke concluded.
