Life Of Soccer Seminar Holds In Lagos
Hundreds of young players, athletes and sports administrators attended a seminar tagged Life of Soccer recently held at the God De Cinema Restaurants, Ajegunle, Ajeromi\Ifelodun LCDA.
During the seminar, Mr Jimmay Eke, one of the invited speakers, presented a paper on Deviant Behaviour in Sports.
He said many football players and athletes in Nigeria put up deviant behaviours during and after matches.
He explained that a sports person whose behaviour in the field of play is contrary to the rules and regulations of the game is considered to have put up a deviant behaviour which may deter such person in his\her chosen career.
Eke who teaches Sports psychology in NIS said many factors contribute to deviant behaviours in sports such as poor officiating, bad club management and inadequate training.
“We cannot rule out deviant behaviours in sports. All our athletes including football players, put up deviant behaviours in their various sports.
“As sports persons, we should try as much as possible to control our anger if things are not going well during or after championships.
A sports person should not listen to spectators while playing in order to avoid deviant behaviour,†he said.
He also advised the players to shun alcohol which can make them misbehave in the field of play, saying that all the players should remain focus and determined in their chosen careers.
Many players who attended the seminar expressed gratitude to the guest speaker for the topic.
Some of them admitted that they also put up deviant behaviour but promised to shun any social vices that can make them misbehave on and off the pitch.
The project coordinator of Soccer Development Consultancy, Jane Nduibisi, said the aim of the seminar is to educate the players about the rules and regulations of the round leather game and to be disciplined in their football careers.
Nduibisi also explained that the seminar will prepare the players for the mental and emotional competitiveness of the game.
She advised the players to avoid alcohol and other social vices that can damage their career.
