The police in Lagos have arrested a 27-year old man, Segun Oshinowo, for being in possession of a pistol.
The accused was arrested on 16 May, 2011, along LASU/Igando Road, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Ode Egboja told the presiding magistrate of the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Mrs. Anabo that the two-count charge was punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol.II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The second charge reads: “That you, Segun Oshinowo, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district unlawfully had in your possession one locally-made pistol without licence issued to you by the Inspector-General of Police and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 428 (c) (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”
The accused was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must be gainfully employed.
The case has been adjourned till 27 July, 2011.
