A non-Governmental Organisation, Committee for the Defence of People’s Rights, has given an award for excellence in the area of human rights to Supol Bayo Sulaimon, the chairnan of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, Alausa.
While presenting the award to Sulaimon, the national president of the organisation, Comrade Yusuf Muhammed, said the body has observed the activities of the taskforce over time and is pleased with its handling of cases of human rights. He said the task force does not allow unnecessary detention of persons while it also disposes of cases fast.
The president also stated some intances when the taskforce chairman had to call relations of suspects who cannot give account of themselves.
“We have watched and observed the way you treat suspects in this unit and for the fact that you don’t allow people to be detained unjustly. We’ve decided to honour you with this award in recognition of your performances in the area of human rights protection.â€
In his response, Sulaimon thanked the group and promised to improve on his performance , saying that as far as he remained the chairman of the task force, he would never allow the rights of anyone to be violated irrespective of the person’s status.
