All roads lead to Ibadan today as the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria holds this year’s Ibadan Open Scrabble Championship.

P.M Sportsonline gathered from the General Secretary of the federation, James Eakyns, that the two-day tourney will be used to select scrabble players for camping ahead of the World Scrabble Championship scheduled to hold in Warsaw, Poland in August.

“We are organising this tourney, which starts today and ends tomorrow to prepare our players for the World Championship,” Eakyns said.

He disclosed d that over 150 players from all over the country are already in Ibadan to participate in the tourney, which has been categorised into Masters and Opens.

Meanwhile, the cold war between the scrabble federation and some of its top players over monetary rewards given to the players by President Goodluck Jonathan, for their heroic performances at the last Africa Scrabble Championship in Ghana, is still raging.

The players involved are still adamant on non payment of 30 percent out of their largesse to the federation’s account as demanded by the federation’s officials.
