National Sports Festival: Rivers State Maintains Lead

Ahead of the opening ceremony today at the Liberation stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, athletes in the host state have put themselves in a good position to win the Games by leading the trophy log.

Rivers state has a total of 51 medals; 29 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Delta state has won more medals than the host but short of some gold medals. They are placed second with 19 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Akwa Ibom, Ondo and Edo states are third, fourth and fifth respectively. Lagos State is placed seventh with 3 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze medals.

At the bottom of the table are Osun, Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Sokoto,Taraba and Zamfara states. All of them haven’t won anything.

Meanwhile, competition will be put on hold today for the opening ceremony that is expected to be graced by President Goodluck Jonathan.
