The Technical Adviser of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, Daniel Igali, has expressed satisfaction with the high number of young talented wrestlers featuring in the ongoing 17th National Sports Festival.
Igali said the active participation of young talents would give the federation an opportunity to discover wrestlers who could be groomed to become future champions, adding that there is plan to discover wrestlers in different age categories.
According to him, the NWF is expected to appoint a certified wrestling coach to each age grade category to oversee all the national teams and expose them to the modern techniques of the sport.
He said the bane of wrestling in Nigeria is lack of sponsorship.
He believes the corporate bodies should compliment the efforts of the Federal Government, especially in the area of organising regular tournaments, endorsement of athletes, sponsorship of athletes to international competitions.
