Man Docked For Stealing Diesel

The police at Orile Police Division, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have arraigned a suspected diesel thief before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing.

The police alleged that the accused, Danjuma Bala, 41, unlawfully entered the premises of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc at midnight to steal 60 litres of diesel valued N11,000.

The incident occurred on 18 May, 2011 at about 2 am at the office of Julius Berger Plc along Badagry Expressway, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State.

Following a complaint lodged by the management of the company, the police arrested the accused.

During interrogaton, he allegedly confessed to the crime and was charged before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing, offences according to the prosecuting Police Coporal Sule Fatai are punishable under Section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, vol. 2, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N40,000 with two sureties who must be blood relations and own a landed property.The matter was adjourned the matter till 6 July, 2011 and the accused was ordered remanded when he could not perfect the bail conditions.
