Nigeria’s Emenike Charged To Court
Days after being arrested in a match fixing investigation in Turkey, Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Emenike, has been charged to court.
Kickoffnigeria.com reports early today that Emenike was one of the 26 people charged after questioning. 11 others were released.
Emenike is alleged to have been caught on camera negotiating to withdraw from Karabukspor’s home game against Fenernache in return for joining the Yellow Canaries if they become champions.
He is also alleged to have been caught on tape receiving money.
The player is yet to respond to the allegations.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has asked to be furnished with details of the player’s case.
Emenike was among 40 people detained by Turkish police in a massive match fixing probe.
Also arrested was Fenerbache president, Aziz Yildirim, as part of an investigation into match-fixing allegations in the Turkish first and second divisions.
Police are reportedly investigating Fenerbache’s matches against Eskisehirspor and their last game against Sivasspor that won them the title.
It was gathered that Emenike was arrested as part of the investigation because, while still a Karabukspor player, he pulled out of a key game between Fenerbache and his club due to injury.
Fenerbahce won the game 1-0. He later joined the Yellow Canaries, who won the title, at the end of the season.
