For Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu, this is the season of awards, encomiums and accolades from various groups who are appreciative of his immense contributions to the upliftment of mankind and for throwing open the doors of his chambers to indigent prison inmates, many of whom have regained their freedom through his assistance.

The latest award for the lawyer came from the Lagos Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women Organisation, Ikeja Deanery, during its seminar.

President of the association, Dr. (Mrs.) P.U. Ofuafo described Giwa-Amu as a rare personality with a large heart whose passion for sharing with the less privileged what God has blessed him with, is unparalleled.

“It is a thing of joy to most of us who are members of this body that God has blessed us with Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu who despite his age has played the role of a father, brother, benefactor and husband to the widows in our midst. It is to our delight that even at a very short notice, he is always there and never complained. “It is our fervent wish that God Almighty in his infinite mercy will continue to open the doors of heaven and rain his abundant blessings on him,” she prayed.

In his response, a visibly elated Giwa-Amu thanked the association for deeming him worthy of the award and promised to continue to contribute his ‘widow’s mite’ to the association as long as God grants him the ability.
