The Ikotun Business Unit of PHCN says it has taken delivery of over 7,000 pre-paid meters to be installed before December.

Mr. Oluwadare Oseni, Business Manager in the unit, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

He said that the unit had installed 769 pre-paid meters between May and June.

Oseni said that the unit had delayed in the installation of pre-paid meters due to hitches associated with logistics and availability of the meters.

He said that the business unit had made it mandatory to instal

about 2,000 meters monthly to a wide range of customers in the unit.

“We are urging customers, who have paid for pre-paid meters, to bring their receipts for installation,” he added.

According to him, some officials have been mandated to instal meters on the basis of first-come, first-served.

Oseni promised that the PHCN would instal the meters within two weeks of payment and advised customers to stop bypassing meters to connect power supply directly.

He said that the unit would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anybody found in such criminal acts.

“Anybody found by-passing meters will pay N100,000 penalty and criminal charges will be instituted against the customer, if such act persisted,” Oseni said.
