Rivers State’s kick-boxer, Menia Jack, would be counting himself lucky after he escaped death during the -81 kilogramme fight against Rotimi Adekunle of Ondo State.
Menia, who enjoyed overwhelming support from home fans, as he stepped into the ring to battle Adekunle, was beaten to submission by his challenger. In the course of the fight, he slumped but was quickly revived by medics at the venue.
Adekunle was declared the winner on knockout.
National coach, Cletus Okegbe, said it was not strange for a kick-boxer to slump during a fight, especially if the fighter lacks stamina.
P.M. Sports, however, discovered that some kick-boxers developed cold feet as they got set to fight that day.
