Tipper Driver Charged With Manslaughter

Policemen at the Ile-Epo station have arraigned a tipper lorry driver before the Abule-Egba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos

for dangerous and reckless driving which led to the death of two young ladies.

The accused, Olusesi Akamo was accused of driving dangerously on the public highway and caused the death of Olufunke Adeyole and Esther Abake Sanyaolu.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle disclosed that the offence committed are punishable under Section 28 of the Road Traffic Law, Cap.R10, Vol. 7, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge reads: “That you, Olusesi Akamo on 6 March, 2011 at about 05.15hrs along Abeokuta-Lagos expressway, Ile-Epo Bus Stop in the Ikeja magisterial district drove an Austin Tipper with registration number XE 816 AAB in a dangerous and reckless manner and caused the death of Olufunke Adeoye and Esther Abake Sanyaolu.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate, Mr. Owolabi Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with sureties which must be his blood relations.

The matter was adjourned till 8 August, 2011.
