Accused Cut Off Man's Leg

The police in Ota, Ogun State have dragged two suspects, Fagbayi John, 22 and Rasaq Amusa, 25 before the Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cutting off the right leg of a complainant, Suberu Yahaya.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of causing grievous bodily harm to the complainant. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiya told the court that the accused were arrested on 3 July, 2011 at about 8 p.m. at Ijoko, Ota in the house of the first accused, Fagbayi John who accused Suberu Yahaya of theft.

The second accused was said to have joined area boys in the attack on the complainant whose right leg was cut off.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under Sections 516 and 335 of the Criminal Code of Ogun State. Defence counsel to the first accused, A.A. Adeyemo told the court that he had known him for a very long time and that he is a musician.

He urged the court to grant him bail.

Senior magistrate O. Ojo admitted the accused on bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case till 27 September for further hearing.
