Car Spare Parts Thief Nabbed
Gbenga Adewale, a thief who specialises in stealing car spare parts, has been nabbed. He was caught in the act at about 4.30 am today while trying to remove the side mirrors of a Mercedes Benz car at Nurrey Autos located at Testing Ground Bus Stop, Awlowo Way, Ikeja Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
While confessing, Gbenga said he was introduced to the business six months ago by Adamu, an area boy residing in Ipodo, Ikeja, adding that the Alausa Secretariat is their major area of operation.
According to him, “Adamu is our leader, and on daily basis, he decides who will follow him for operation. Since he (Adamu) had worked as a security guard somewhere around the Secretariat before, he understands the terrain very well.â€
Before his eventual arrest this morning by the security guards of Nurrey Motors, Gbenga, a native of Ibadan, Oyo State, had done his operation successfully at the Alausa Secretariat. Some of the items recovered from him include car’s side-mirrors and logos.
He confessed that at the end of every operation, they sell the stolen items to Emeka, a spare parts dealer in Olowu Street, Ikeja, after which his boss (Adamu) would pay him N3,000.
He further confessed to our reporter that “I joined Adamu’s gang when I could not continue to pay the rent of the shop where I make furniture. I have two kids, but one of them is dead now.â€
At the time of writing this report, he was yet to be handed over to the police after he was severely beaten by a mob that witnessed his arrest.
