Lagos Seeks Relief Materials For Flood Victims

The Lagos State Government on Thursday appealed to well meaning Nigerians and private organisations to donate relief materials to Lagos residents displaced by last Sunday’s floods.

The government made the appeal in a statement in Lagos signed by Mr. Lateef Raji, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that flood which resulted from a 16-hour downpour on Sunday submerged many houses and vehicles in the state.

“As a fall out of last Sunday’s floods and the effects, the state government has urged well meaning Nigerians to donate relief materials to displaced persons,” the government said.

It said that the donations were necessary to alleviate the sufferings of the affected residents.

The government urged persons willing to make donations to contact the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Wale Ahmed, on 08022234870, and his Health counterpart, Dr. Jide Idris, on 08022234273.
