Tears flowed freely today as the late governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the 2007 election, Adedipupo Akanni Dina (D. D. Direct) was remembered.
He was remembered as part of his 51st post-humous birthday celebration held at his hometown, Ijebu-Ode in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The late Dipo Dina was born into the family of Alapoekun in Itale area of Ijebu Ode on 15 July 1960.
He belonged to the Egbe Bobagunte age grade in Ijebu-Ode and held several titles before he was killed by assasins.
Our correspondent gathered that the celebration was packaged by an NGO believed to belong to a woman who is a chairmanship aspirant in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of the state.
The woman, P.M.NEWS learnt, is called Bukky by her political admirers and was one of the strong members of the Dipo Dina Movement when the late politician was alive.
The crowd at the newly named Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode comprised artisans, market men and women, okada riders, students who came to remember the man that was brutally murdered by yet to be identified gunmen along Idiroko- Agbara road on 27 January 2010.
Speaking with our correspondent on phone, Hon. Remmy Hazzan representing Odogbolu State Constituency said the late politician deserved whatever people may be doing to remember him.
According to Hazzan, ’’we got the invitation letter and it was read on the floor of the House yesterday. We were told that a chairmanship aspirant from Ijebu North East Local Government Area packaged the programme and we just had to honour it.
“The late Dipo Dina deserved even more than this.’’
A source confirmed to our correspondent that the programme was facilitated by Bukky who is an aspirant into the Chairmanship seat in Ijebu North East.
