The Lagos State government has paid N6.3 million to families of eight of its staff who died in active service or retired. The affected staff are from the Lagos Island Local Government.
Addressing families of the deceased at the cheque presentation ceremony, Mr. Ademorin Kuye, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the occasion was to appreciate the dead who were fondly remembered for their dedication to service.
The commissioner, who was represented at the cheque presentation to the eight next-of-kin of the deceased staff by Mr. James Kakawa, disclosed that the ceremony was unprecedented because this was the first time that civil servants would be benefiting from the Group Life Assurance Policy which came into effect on 1 June, 2009.
He added that the prompt processing and payment of these claims was a demonstration of the premium placed on staff welfare, even in death.
The Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Sanni who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Toyese Olusi, saluted the departed ones for their meritorious service and having left behind enviable records.
Sanni also expressed the Local Government’s profound gratitude to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for making it possible for these claims to be processed and handed-over to beneficiaries, and urge them to put the benefits to good use which will be worthy of the deceased efforts and toil.
