Ex-banker Drags Dangote Group to Court for N12m Damages

An ex bank official, Mr. Aderemi Adigun has dragged the management of Dangote Group of companies to court for N12million damages over damage to his car as a result of reckless driving by one of the company’s drivers.

 

According to a writ of summon filed in an Osun State High Court by the claimant on 13th of July, 2011 and a copy made available to journalists, Mr. Adigun, a former employee of a new generation bank sued Dangote Group for breach of their duty of care they owe the claimant.

 

The claimant according to the statement said on 24th October, 2010, the defendant’s vehicle suddenly ran into the rear of his Toyota Corolla with registration number SB 32 GGE causing severe and extensive damage.

 

The claimant said that the driver of the defendant’s DAF freight liner truck fully loaded with Obajana cement bags with registration number EX 686 GWW, Mr. Zakari Audu immediately escaped from the scene of the accident.

 

 

He stated further that, he together with his wife and two daughters and a family friend were returning from Osun state to Ibadan before the defendant’s truck suddenly crushed and dragged the car and its occupants into a nearby bush adding that people had to rescue them from the wreckage.

 

The claimant noted that, he and his family suffered various degrees of shock and those that sustained injuries spent months in the hospital without care from the defendant stressing that series of letters had been written to the defendant without positive reply.

 

The incident which occurred around 5.00pm at Baale Ayo village, Asejire, Ife – Ibadan road had deprived the claimant of the use of the said vehicle and one of his daughters is still living with the trauma incurred during the accident.

 

The applicant is claiming the sum of N10, 000,000 being the general damages arising from the defendant’s breach of their duty of care owed the victims of the accident, another sum of N1, 379, 032, 20k for the amount incurred for the repair work on his Toyota Corolla caused by the negligence of the defendant and sum of N500, 000 for the solicitor’s effort in pursuing the claim against the defendant.
