Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and other invited guests are expected to grace the opening match of the Yakub Balogun Soccer competition which holds on 29 July at the Campos Sports Centre,
The opening match will be played between Olorunishola Workers Jamat Mosque football team and Lateef Jakande Central Mosque football team, while the second match is between Brazilian Salvador Mosque football team and Isale Gangan Mosque football team.
The competition is sponsored by Honourable Yakub Balogun, representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency II and organised by Afo Football Association.
Chairman Organising Committee, Afolabi Onanaike, told GSG that apart from the opening match that will hold during daytime, all other matches will take place during the time of Sahur (very early in the morning when Muslims eat before fasting during Ramadan)
Onanaike said they have sent letters of invitation to guests who will grace the opening/closing ceremonies.
Among the invited guests are deputy governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Joke Orelope Adefulire; Lagos State Sports Commissioner, Enitan Oshodi and a member of Lagos House of Assembly, Alhaji Wahab Wale Alawiye-King.
Onanaike, popularly called Afo, disclosed that 32 mosques are expected to take part in the one-month competition, adding that all the mosques on Lagos Island Constituency II are eligible to take part in the championship.
He said the cup donor is happy to sponsor the tournament which will unite the youth on the Island.
