The new Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the Kaduna airport, Northwest Nigeria.

The minister gave the directive during an inspection of facilities at the airport at the weekend.

Expressing shock at the level of dilapidation in the camp, the minister said that the conditions there are not decent for human beings.

She promised that such deplorable conditions will not be condoned under her watch.

Following the directive, the camp is to undergo full rehabilitation, which will see the toilets and other facilities brought back to functional state, she said.

The minister said that Nigerians proceeding on pilgrimage deserve some dignity.

The rehabilitation works, once completed, will make the journey of the pilgrims, ordinarily very stressful, an exciting experience too, she said.

Meanwhile, the minister has also given the matching orders to the contractor handling the new Control Tower project at the airport to complete the job on schedule or face the consequences of default. The project is to be completed in September.

The minister rounded off the facility tour at Kano airport with a courtesy visit to the state governor, Musa Kwankwaso.
